My hair is damaged from coloring and relaxing. What can i do? (look at the details)?

highlighted my hair for two years....dyed it red (hated it) dyed it back to brown with blonde highlights...got some more highlights....chemically relaxed it (3 times) then i dyed it brown then i got sick of it and dyed it back to brown with blonde highlights and then got blonde highlights one more time. (UGH)

my hair used to be thick, shiny, long, and healthy...now its thin, ugly, damaged, dry and i have a lot of split ends. the last time i got highlights was about a year ago and the last time i chemically relaxed it was about 1 yr and a half ago...i dont really straighten it that much anymore and i condition it a lot.

one thing im really concerned about it that i dont really have a lot of hair...and my natural hair is very thick...it used to be about 5 times thicker than it is now! even though i havent highlighted it in about a year, i feel that even since then...i've lost some hair.

please help! i want my natural hair back :(

let it grow out! its the only way to get your NATURAL hair color back!

Go to your hairdresser, get some length gut of it so the split ends are cut off, this will stop your hair breaking and splitting further...

Then just give it time i guess is the only way.

You could have it stripped of all the colour but that involved more chemicals i think.

Cut them till the new one grows... I had the same problem and I used Ojon restorative treatment. Its awesome and it helps alot. Use organic shampoos and conditioners like giovanni available at shoppers drug mart..best

same thing happened to me! sucks huh? =)

Keep up with the conditioning, if you dont want to do deep treatments at a salon I suggest about once a week, cake the conditioner on when your in the shower, HOP OUT, and wrap the hair in a hot towel fresh out of the dryer.. It really locks that moisture in there.. It will do wonders...

And the only other thing, keep the ends trimmed, and as hard as it is to do -- LEAVE IT ALONE! haha.. No more high lighting or color jobs until it gets back to being near the thickness it once was... =) =) GOOD LUCK!

get a trim to get rid of the split ends. keep having trims every six weeks. this will make your hair stay healthy. if you put olive oil in your hair before washing it, it becomes thicker. remember to shampoo twice. i do this to my hair and now its really thick. let your natural hair colour come through and get a nice haircut after your hair has become healthy.

hope this helps!!

using a hot oil treatment 3 times a week and amssaging ur scapl with help. DO NOT do anything to ur hair. cut it a bit and put it in a pony tail often :) i know it's tough, but hey i'm doing that too!! no more hot tools or coloring for me!! although i've not done as much as u but it's still kinda damaged. also, use salon quality products.

i've heard really good reviews for redken extreme so u could try that. :)

or biolage.

however, the best thing u could do is to wait for ur hair to gorw out (i'm doing it too :)

You will most likely have to cut it off...about 3-4 inches sometimes more...

It sounds really bad and cutting it pretty short would give it a fresh slate and time to grow back healthy and thick! ( ;

Defiantly go to a salon and see what they say.

You should also deep condition 5-7 times a week on top of conditioning with regular conditioner.

Don't over product your hair and DON'T dye it either ever again or with blonde...

blonde strips your hair of its natural shine and health (when its fake) so definitely let your hair take a breather!!

Good Luck!!

i had this problem. stop puting things in your hair the more chemicals you put in your hair the more damaged it will get.

leave it alone and start growing it out and once it grows out some trim the ends and after a while of doning this your hair will be back to normal and good as new. once it's back to normal don't put a ton of chemicals in it. you could color your hair or highlight it or whatever just don't put to many chemicals in it at once. also when you wash your hair always put conditioner in it, it closes up the hair strands and makes it shiny. i hope this helps

It's important to approach reclaiming healthy hair in the right steps.

1. Patience: it could take as many years to REPAIR your hair as it did to damage it. So find a short haircut that makes you look FABULOUS (even if you don't really like short hair on yourself).

2. Nutrition is going to take care of the rest: Inside as well as outside.

Inside= (1) Take your vitamins. Especially important will be "A" and "E". Be VERY careful with these since they are oil soluable and can build up in your system to become toxic. (2) Get plenty of sleep. During sleep the body repairs itself. (3) Get enough protein, which is what hair is made of. Fish is the lowest calorie, highest protein source (if you normally don't like fish, try the really mild ones like flounder and put sauce on it to cover up the taste)! Chicken is great, too.

Outside= (1) Use a hot oil treatment on your hair each week. The best? Olive oil, straight from the grocery store. Before you shampoo: Heat in the microwave for 30 secs just the amount that will soak your hair completely. Slather on your hair and leave for 20 minutes. (2) Use a moisturizing shampoo to clean your hair, but NOT squeaky clean. And DON"T use hot water, just hot enough to make a lather. (3) Do as little as possible to your hair when wet, so that the hair shaft doesn't stretch. (4) Always wrap your hair at night because the pillow fabric can pull on the hair. Just don't use a cotton bandana because cotton will wick out the natural hair oils. (4) Don't expose your hair to the elements, either sun, wind, or cold. Wear a hat, but be sure to use the same precaution as when wrapping your head at night.

Remember: Patience is going to be the thing that works best! That, and that cute *** short haircut. Good luck.

Stop relaxing and coloring it and get ready to start over. I have been wearing twist for the last couple of years because of the same experience. I use to wear a relaxer and every time I went my hair would get thinner and thinner. My beautician use to say it was just my hair texture...blah...blah...blah! I just got tired of hearing that and stopped going. I bought some quality conditioners and started doing it myself. My hair is now healthy, thick like it use to be and long. It can be done but it's going to take a while. Think of it like this, it didn't get this damaged overnight and it will take just as long for it to grow back healthy and thick.

Also take a vitamin and watch your diet. Be aware that you may have to go through that "wow my hair looks awful phase".

ok first go get a haircut! and trim all the dead hair and split hair! now find a shampoo that works for your hair! like a shampoo for damdged hair! now go get a deep conditioner too, because they really work. Ok i know this may sound weird but get coconut oil! it helps ur hair sooooo much! not joking! i used to have damdged hair but now i have been using that and it works like magic! All u do is put it on the day before your going to take a shower and then the next day wash it out with shampoo and conditioner! now my hair is soooo healty looking, and shiny! and its also not that frizzy...!

now try not to take a shower every day! washing ur hair alot losses alot of mositure in ur hair! k! well i hope that i helped

My hair is damaged from coloring and relaxing. What can i do? (look at the details)?

Don't lose hope..however you will have to be patient. You have lost about all of the moisture in your hair, since that is what the relaxers and the coloring did.

i do not have a relaxer i stopped getting them 5 years ago ( and i've only have 3 relaxers in my life time so this is all natural) so i can show you how to take care of hair with or without a relaxer. These are the basics, so i will answer your question totally. Often times there is many solutions to one problem.

1. The shampoo, unfortunately many black women are using shampoos with alcohol, petroleum jelly, and sulfates. step away from them. You can Use Aveda's shampoo.. specifically the name is Sap Moss...go to the website. I use it, i love it, it mouisterizes my hair and the products are natural. I recommend KeraCare's shampoo you you since it is great for relaxed hair and it has shampoo specifically for relaxed hair that need to be moisturized. check out avlon.com You only need to wash hair about once a week

2. Okay, step two condition it and then it is time to comb it out, Do not use a brush on you hair when it is wet,,it will hate you for it then break off in revenge. Put your your sections use a big tooth comb, to untangle it

3. Do a hot oil treatment atleast once a month with extra virgin olive oil...repeat..EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil..not the regular stuff. unfortunately i have yet to take this step however my hair is doing great. Protein treatment could also be good for you( do some research to find out about the technique) and deep conditioning.

4. Okay on the daily basis you need to pay close attention to your hair...i recommend conditioning your scalp(3-4 times a week) and your ends(everyday) so that they will not get dry and unhealthy Petroleum jellly and mineral oil are weapons of mass destruction ( in other words do not use grease) it does so much harm to your hair it cannot be all explained here. So you ask what do I use...well natural oils carrier oils such as grapeseed oil ( use it for hair and scalp since it deflects heat so it is good for flat iron users like me) jojoba oil(i use this for my scalp), extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, emu oil, coconut oil...all these natural oils and more love you..i promise.

I also recommend you put a drop of essential oil such as peppermint, basil, rosemary, myrrh, or ylang ylang oil in 4 tablespoons of carrier oil (the ones i mentioned before)

5. Next,,if you want your hair straight but still be natural it is time to get a freakin good flat iron.,i have the Chi..it does the job but I recommend getting the Sedu because of the good reviews. make sure to protect your hair..i have so thermal protector from Aveda. When flat ironing your hair do not let the iron stay on your hair for too long, just 1-2 quick swipes.

I strongly advise against flat iron use for those with relaxers.

6. If you have a relaxer ( i have heard that Mizani and Affirm are the best relaxers) don't continue to relaxer all your hair everytime you go to the salon..just the new growth and try to stretch relaxers as long as possible. It is best for relaxers hair to do roller sets under a hooded dryer, with the lowest temperature possible.

7. You do not need to trim your hair everytime you go to the salon maybe every 3 to 6 months.

8. Wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf to prevent damage before you go to bed.

9. Eat healthy, drink lots of water,

10 take multivitamins, and fish oil pills you can get from GNC.

Follow these steps and life will be good..the best part about flat iron (which i do once a week or every two weeks not everday since it will kill your hair) is that it is not stringy but thick and healthy, yet straight and light enough to blow in the wind.
