Hair Dying Horror! Advice needed quickly?

I used a pre-lightner on my hair today becuase it said on the packaging that it can be used to strip already died hair of its colour so only the natural hair colour would remain, which is I wanted to do. However, something must of gone wrong becuase my hair has gone bright yellowish blonde! Some of it looks quite nice, but some of it had turned brassy. I've heard that to counteract the redness, I should dye it a light ash blonde. But will this not seriously damage my hair? PLEASE HELP! what do i dooo?

It sounds like you stripped your hair down past it's natural color. I've done this before...you need a professional to tell you what to color it with or you could end up very unhappy. Go to a salon or to a beauty supply store and ask for their advice.

Okay, first of all, the products you buy at walmart and other drugstores are not made for your hair, they're made for everyone. When you go to a stylist, if they do it right, they blend different colors and volumes to get the results you want. What probably happened is you left it on too long (the timing directions are general, you have to go by how fast your hair reacts). The longer you leave it on, the lighter your hair will get, and since the bleach isnt really strong, it turned your hair yellow instead of blonde. If your hair is red, an ash color will help neutralize it, if its orange use a color with a tint of blue, and if its yellow use a color with a tint of purple. However, I would recommend going to a salon to get this done, because the box colors may have more green/blue/purple in them than what you want, and your hair could turn out those colors.

First of all, you should wait two weeks or so before putting anything else on your hair. You don't want to double process it with too many chemicals. I've heard that a couple of tablespoons of vinegar can rectify hair dying problems. Something about the pH of the dye and the vinegar. Whatever you do, you shouldn't go lighter than what the pre-lightener has done. Not at this point. All lighteners use bleach, ammonia, or some other harsh chemical to strip the hair of it's color. By darkening your hair, you will deposit color to your hair. Opt for some lowlights to compliment the blonde that did turn out okay. And make sure you condition to get your hair healthy so you can try re-dying it again. And don't use that pre-lightener crap again.

Stop right there! Go see a professional. Ash will turn your hair gray. Golden colors will turn your hair red. To remove brassy colors you need a toner. Your best bet is to go to a salon.
