Hair Dye Help Please!!!!?

Okay im a redhead but continued to dyed my hair semi-perminant black over the course of a year or so. Back in may i stopped dying my hair black and went to the hairdressers in august to get it stripped as i want to go back to my natural hair colour. However this didnt work and im just left with about 4/5 inches of red roots and dark browny ends. My hair is longer than shoulder length and as u can imagen it looks bloody awful!

Without going to the hairdressers to get it stripped again (as i cant afford it at the moment) Are there any ways of making my hair look better colour wise without dying it brown or black again or waiting for it to grow out like i have been doing for 8 months now? I feel like such a mess and want my hair one nice colour :( Please help. Many thanks xxxx

Try a natural henna dye, you can get it in various shades including black. Lush sell blocks of it and they will help you in the shop, I am assuming you live in GB

Go and buy your natural colour in a permanent bottle and dye your whole head.

It might take a few times to be perfect, but each time it will blend better.

Then when you can afford it, go and have your hair dyed back to your natural colour professionally.

Don't have it "stripped" again. Have it bleached first if she says the colour won't go over the dark ends.

I have no hair qualification btw, but thats what i'd do. I just had my hair put back to my natural colour and there was no stripping involved, just dying it the colour of my roots.

keep letting your hair grow out. cut off about a half an inch every 2 months or so. your hair will be healthier and it will be gone in no time. hair grows way faster when it isnt damaged. dont straiten it or blow dry it for a while.

You could cut it back to the red regrowth... but I would imagine that that would be pretty short, and that you may as well just shave it! But other than that I have no other suggestions!

tell your mom about it and make her pay for it

No.

If you have been dying it for a while you will have a 'build up' of colour. In laymans terms, layers of the colour on top of each other.

A semi-permanent colour lies on the top of the hair coating it. Permanent dyes penetrate the hair and colour it from the inside, so, using a permanent dye will not remove the semi permanent dye.

Your hairdresser will have used the stripper to remove a few layers of the dye you have on, but over stripping it will damage it.

Each time you wash it a little colour will lift.

Pay a visit to a hairdressers wholesale, they will be able to sell you a mild stripper over the counter, ask a friend to help you apply it. This will save you the cost of a visit to the hairdresser.Make sure you follow the instructions carefully.

You may not get all the colour out and may have to persevere in growing it out and getting regular trims.

I've got red hair too sweet i know how you feel. I had the same problem with my hair. I would strip it again and get a perm colour that you want. U may find that in 6 weeks time u need to colour it again, but eventually it will be the colour you want it. I walked around like a light bulb for two weeks after my hair was stripped. The main thing is you take really good care of your hair if you are going to be putting any colour on it. So maybe treat yourself to some expensive hair products because believe me your hair will benefit from it.

The best thing to do is get as much as possible of the dyed hair cut off Get an all over cut, as short as you can be comfortable with. Then color it as close as possible to your natural color . When all of the black color is gone you will have an easier time getting your natural color back.

First of all Cut it! Get rid of as much of the old ends as you are willing to lose. A decent technician would have advised you of that before colour correcting it. After 8 months it probably needs it and you should have at least 10inches of natural hair by now. Do not use Henna over old peroxide based dye, Henna is a metalic based substance and the two don't mix. Either carry on growing it or go back to a reputable salon and have it cleansed with bleach baths or reduced with colour removers.

Neither of these can give gaurenteable results but professionals will do a better job than trying to sort it yourself at home( thats how you got in this mess in the first place; right?)

Go to the L'Oreal or Wella World academies if you are really nervous they are in Hammersmith and Oxford Street.

Ps I'm a Wella Master Colour Specialist(with a certificate and 10years technical experience!!!!!!! listen to me!!!

To soften the re-growth line you could have hi or low lights run through so that everything looks more blended, but this involves using more dye. Although as the hair grows down you are not left with a harsh line.

The other thing I thought was maybe one of these really pretty clip on pony tails, that way you would be able to pull your own hair back and clip the hair piece over the dodgy ends. I'm sure you could get one that matches your natural hair colour.

Or have you seen the hair that you clip in temporarily, you could get your own hair colour clipped in under a layer of hair and your natural colour would then run through with the dyed ends.

If you carry on having chemicals applied to your hair, it will ultimately cause damage and this will slow it's growth, but you may well be able to dye your whole head a shade somewhere near natural so that as it grows it will look less obvious but I wouldn't say that was the best option after you have gone so long trying to get back to natural.

I know the hair pieces cost money but they don't damage your hair at all. (could you use yr card and pay next month?)
